ABOUT US
SSIFO was created in the name and memory of all those who played, managed, coached and supported Basketball in Somalia, or people of Somali origin who are involved in the development of Basketball in any form out side the home land. This site is run by the Somali Sport International Friendship Organisation (SSIFO) which is an umbrella organisation for all the Diaspora groups that are or were involved in Basketball.
Our Goals are:
To provide an affordable venue that promotes interaction between youths and young adults of various communities, especially those considered at risk (defined as minority’s low income).
To provide a forum in which youths can be mentored in terms of spiritual and physical knowledge by respected individuals within various communities in the context of a common interest through various guest speakers and workshops.
To provide a positive environment and respite for youths from negative peer pressures, criminal propensities, dysfunctional families, and other environmental or socio-economic factors.
To encourage youths and young adults to become comfortable and involved in activities they may not feel qualified to participate in otherwise through various volunteering opportunities.
We believe that the Somali people are naturally gifted and talented, that there is no limit to what can be achieved at the right environment, we believe that fairness and honesty is the key to success and that all individuals to be judged by their ability and contributions to the national Sports. Consequently we aim to revive the bride of Somali sport and assist in the development of new local, continental and world champions in the near future.
